Meet Danielle Relyea
I’ve always believed great design begins with understanding how a space is actually lived in. It should feel personal, function intuitively, and respect the architecture around it. That means paying attention to the small, everyday details: how someone moves through a room, what they reach for while cooking, and where the things they use most need to live.
In many ways, design is deeply rooted in my DNA. My grandfather was a successful builder in the Hudson Valley, and my family ran a real estate business here decades ago. I grew up around construction sites and open houses, developing an early interest in how spaces are built and transformed. As a teen, I also worked in the floral industry. That experience crystallized my love of decor, color, materials, and composition, and ultimately led me to study interior design at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
My career now spans more than 20 years. My experience has taken me from commercial projects with Michael Goldsmith Architects in New York City to specialized kitchen, bath, and cabinetry work at Williams Lumber in Millbrook and JEM Woodworking in Hudson. Along the way, I’ve worked across architecture, construction, furnishings, finishes, and custom millwork, giving me a strong understanding of both the creative and technical sides of a project.
Cabinetry and built-ins have become an especially important part of my design approach. Kitchens, bathrooms, and other high-use spaces require careful planning to be both functional and beautiful, with thoughtful consideration given to layout, storage, and everyday use. I enjoy digging into those details and finding solutions that make a space feel more natural and efficient.
Over the years, my work has included private residences as well as restaurants, retail spaces, offices, and other commercial environments. Whatever the project, I see design as a collaborative process. A space should reflect the people who use it, and my role is to bring experience, practical knowledge, and a trained eye to the process while helping clients make choices that feel like their own.
